InRealLife
InRealLife is a 2013 documentary directed by Beeban Kidron, made with backing from the BFI Film Fund and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film follows British teenagers who grew up with constant internet and smartphone access, letting them describe in their own words how always-on connectivity shapes their friendships, self-image, and exposure to pornography and other adult content. Kidron intersperses these accounts with commentary from technologists and researchers, including Jimmy Wales and danah boyd, to ask who benefits commercially from young people's time online. TechKids Foundation cites the film as an early, widely discussed public document connecting heavy, unstructured device use with changes in teenage social behavior, framed by its own director as a question about design and commercial incentives rather than a clinical diagnosis.
